Weeks Six and Seven
Hi-
We had some great discussion this past week about access to the Internet - particularly in the rural areas. And, I think our discussions of Marc Prensky's seminal 2001 article "Digital Natives - Digital Immigrants" was excellent. Nice to note that some of the "immigrants" reported that they really felt like "natives."
Looking ahead to this week, banking and online commerce top the agenda. I look forward to our practical application of searching froogle, biznet, epinions, CNET, and PC Magazine. It will be fun to see the range of purchases we examine.
"See" you in the discussion board.

I enjoyed listening to this week's synopsis of what your class has been focusing on, and I wholeheartedly agree with your comments on the need to pay closer attention to those individuals living in rural areas and lessening the overall digital divide. I remember you saying that information is "power," and if those living in the rural areas are not provided adequate access to information they will then lack the necessary "power" to live in the 21st century. Your podcast is an excellent example of using this technology to enhance your students' overall learning, and to allow the general public a glimpse of what your students are learning at UIS.
